Residency Programs

Secrets of the Heart
Music, Dance, Theatre Arts and Visual Arts
Grades K-2

Dream A World Education founder, Grammy Award-Winner Bunny Hull brings a team of professional artists to your school. Through this six-week multi-arts residency, children learn music, dance, theatre and visual arts and discover the gifts that live within them. They learn the values of friendship, kindness, imagination and gratitude, as well as history, geography and social studies as they relate to each arts workshop. The residency includes professional development, curriculum materials, a live performance, and culminates with a children’s presentation. Music curriculum kicks it off when Hull creates an original class song with each class. Each class receives a professionally recorded version of their song at the end of the residency.

The Secrets of the Heart's curriculum guide for K-2 links the arts experience to academic achievement and critical thinking skills in Language Arts, Listening/Speaking, History, Social Studies and the development of interpersonal skills. This program reveals the arts to children as it relates to culture and tradition, gives them a little geography and history and teaches them, through self-expression, how to have greater respect for themselves and each other.

A professional development package is available for this residency program. See detaiils under Professional Teacher Training.

Dream A World
Music and Language Arts
Grades 2-5

This program is a 4-week residency presented by Grammy Award Winning songwriter Bunny Hull for the 2nd-5th grade levels. These music workshops use the creation of poetry and song to take children on a journey of self-discovery, as they explore the importance of having a dream and the process involved in achieving their dreams. Students create a class poem, which is then adapted for the creation of an original song. The process involves language skills, reading, spelling, art and music. Children learn the power of words, choice, how to define their goals and aspirations and create a plan to achieve their dreams. This residency takes place one day per week with up to three classrooms up to ninety students total, over a four-week period. Each residency will begin with planning and scheduling.  The residency culminates with a performance of the song each class has created for schoolmates, family and friends.  Each class receives a CD of their song.  Songs are typically used later for graduation programs.

A professional development package is available for this residency program. See detaiils under Professional Teacher Training.

Workshops

A Drop of Peace
Music
PreK-2

This 45-minute music workshop uses song, story and an interactive exercise to teach children why they are so important. We talk about what is unique about each child as well as all they hold in common.  We create a song about how they each make a  difference in the world.

The Friendship Seed
Music
K-2

In this 45-minute music workshop children learn about the ukulele and how to create a song as they discover what friendship means. We learn music vocabulary and create a "word palette" to discuss all the elements of friendship along with values like honesty. This workshop employs language skills, reading, spelling and music. Children participate in the performance of songs and ultimately Hull creates a song on the spot from the class poem the group has created together.

What educators have said about Bunny Hull and Dream A World Education:

"Bunny Hull was an inspiration to the Gifted and Talented Coordinators and teachers in District K. The song she wrote for the Heroes project was used by many of our schools and the students loved it!! Many of our teachers used it in many of the cultural programs that were presented following the professional development workshop presented by Bunny.

We are inviting Bunny back to present it to parents of our gifted students!"

[About "Secrets of the Heart" Residency]

"You have the gift. The reflection which has emerged for me has to do with the "presence" of our K students.  Since "Secrets," the children are much more confident and present in their work.  I feel like this project truly bonded them to the school and to themselves.  For me this is very real, very tangible."
